Teams

Anyone wishing to represent the club as an individual is extremely welcome. To be considered for a team one must be a club member of a high enough standard to compete. You must attend at least one of our shows to be seen in action and make your identity known to the relevant team organiser.  We will try and make matters as easy as possible and will help and support you at your event.

In turn you will have to be a fully paid member at least 21 days prior to any qualifying round and in any event, not later than the 25th May 2003. The costs are to be met by the competitor.

General Rules for Qualifiers and Finals

RIDERS
All riders taking part in senior qualifiers or championships must be 17 years or over by 1st January 2003.  Those taking part in junior qualifiers or championships must not have attained their 17 birthday by 1st January 2003.
HORSES/PONIES
There are no general height restrictions except those horses competing in senior showjumping or horse trial competitions must be over 14hh.  No horse under 5 years of age is eligible to compete in horse trials or hunter trials and no horse under 4 years old may compete at any other event.
EQUINE INFLUENZA
Each horse must carry a valid vaccination certificate, which undeniably relates to that horse, completed, signed and stamped on both sides by a vet who is not the owner of the horse.  It must state that the horse/pony has received two injections for primary vaccination against equine flu given no less than 21 days and no more than 92 days apart.  Only these two vaccinations need to be given in order for an animal to compete.  However, a first booster must be given no less than 150 days and no more than 215 days after the second injection of the primary vaccination.  Subsequent boosters must then be given at intervals of no more than one year apart commencing from the date of the first booster.  There must not be any breaks in this procedure.  If a break has occurred and either the primary or booster injection dates do not fit this criteria, then the primary injections need to be started again in order to be eligible to compete.
DRESS AND TACK
Hats need to be either BS/EN1384, PAS015 or pre-fixed with ASTM or SEI in order to be eligible for all events.  Body protectors  level 3 and medical armbands are obligatory for XC, Horse trials and Hunter trial events.  All hair must be secured above the collar e.g. in a hairnet.  You can obtain medical armbands from the BHS office at Stoneleigh.

Showjumping

Annette Bonsor - 01733 241454

Like most competitions, the standard and requirements needed for the qualifiers in this area do not have much bearing on the actual championships.  We thought that it only fair to inform all potential team members the standards and height to be jumped at the championships to avoid any unnecessary shocks!  This however, is only a guide as anybody who wishes to be part of a team for the qualifiers will try to be accommodated with pleasure!

JUNIOR NOVICE
All horses/ponies can be registered BSJA but must not have any winnings.  All previous winnings can be reduced by £50 for each full year that the registration has lapsed.  They must not have won any BHTA or IHTS Horse trial points.  All riders and horses/ponies need to be capable of jumping a good 3ft.0” course of a reasonable level of difficulty.
JUNIOR OPEN
Horse/pony not to have won a total of £250 BSJA.  Again £50 can be subtracted for each full year that the horse remains unregistered.  All riders and horse/ponies need to be capable of jumping a very good 3ft 6” course over quite a challenging track.

SENIOR NOVICE
This has exactly the same criteria as for the junior novice.
SENIOR OPEN
Horse not to have won a total of £300 BSJA.  Again £50 can be subtracted from the total winnings for each full year that the horse remains unregistered.  All riders/horses need to be capable of jumping a 3ft9” course over a challenging track with some big spreads and combinations.

Anyone is welcome to take part in the qualifiers regarding this discipline. The standards are quite high and so it is desirable to be producing good tests at elementary level.  This is one area in which the club would like to become more involved so if you are interested or need more information, then call Kate or Cate.
